For nearly three decades, Surge Soccer has been bringing hope and joy to the children of Tecate, Mexico, through our ongoing partnership with the Rancho San Juan Bosco Orphanage. Located just south of the U.S. border, this orphanage has become a place where countless children have found love, care, and the transformative power of soccer. Our work in Tecate is a testament to the impact that consistent support and dedication can have on a community in need.

The story of our involvement in Tecate began in 1993 when a worker from an adoption agency reached out to us with a simple request: “Could you bring your team to visit the Rancho San Juan Bosco Orphanage?” At that time, we had no idea that this initial visit would grow into a long-term relationship that has since touched the lives of over 1,300 orphans. From that first trip, we felt a deep connection to the children and the dedicated staff at the orphanage, and we knew that we had to continue supporting them in any way we could.

Over the years, our efforts in Tecate have expanded far beyond that initial visit. We have organized more than 45 visits to the orphanage, each one filled with soccer games, charity matches, and opportunities to share the love of Christ. These visits are not just about playing soccer; they are about building relationships, offering encouragement, and providing a sense of belonging to children who have faced unimaginable hardships.

One of the highlights of our work in Tecate has been the annual charity soccer matches that we host. These matches have become a beloved tradition, bringing together local communities and supporters from both sides of the border to raise funds for the orphanage. Through these events, we have been able to provide essential resources, such as food, clothing, and educational materials, to the children. Additionally, our Halloween House event has become another crucial fundraiser, further enabling us to meet the needs of the orphanage.

But our involvement in Tecate goes beyond just material support. We believe in the power of soccer to inspire and motivate children, helping them develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed in life. Through our soccer camps and training sessions, we teach the children valuable life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. These are lessons that will serve them well as they grow into adulthood, regardless of the challenges they may face.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work in Tecate is seeing the long-term impact it has on the children. Many of the orphans who have participated in our programs over the years have gone on to lead successful lives, with some even returning to the orphanage as volunteers to give back to the place that once nurtured them. This cycle of support and empowerment is what drives us to continue our work in Tecate year after year.
